Bhogapuram Airport to Vizag: Cabs, Buses & Where to Stay
All Vizag flights now use the new Bhogapuram airport. Here’s how to get into the city by bus or cab, and why Madhurawada is the closest place to stay.

Getting from Bhogapuram airport to Vizag takes about 1 to 1½ hours to the city centre, about 47–50 km by road along the NH16. You can take an APSRTC electric airport bus, an app cab or a local taxi. Madhurawada, on the airport side of the city, is about 36 km away, so it’s the quickest place to stay.

Where Is the New Vizag Airport?
Since 17 August 2026, all scheduled flights to Visakhapatnam use the new Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) International Airport at Bhogapuram, in Vizianagaram district, north-east of the city along the NH16 (report on the shift). The airport kept the VTZ code, so tickets still say Visakhapatnam.
The old airport inside INS Dega no longer handles scheduled flights. If a cab driver, a map pin or an old booking shows “Vizag Airport” near NAD Junction, that’s the old one, so check you’re heading to Bhogapuram.
How Far Is Bhogapuram Airport from Vizag?
Road distances from the airport (approximate, by the main route):
Madhurawada (Coral Hotel): about 36 km, 45 minutes to 1 hour
Rushikonda and the IT Hills: about 41 km, around 50 minutes
RTC Complex and Dwaraka Nagar: about 47 km, around 1 hour
RK Beach: about 48 km, 1 to 1¼ hours
Visakhapatnam railway station: about 50 km, 1 to 1½ hours
Allow extra time at peak hours, on festival days and in heavy rain.
Bhogapuram Airport to Vizag by Bus
APSRTC runs air-conditioned electric airport buses, launched on 16 August 2026 (APSRTC airport buses). They leave from the bus bay outside the terminal. As reported, there are two routes:
Inland route along the NH16: Kommadi, Madhurawada, Yendada, Zoo Park, Hanumanthuwaka, Maddilapalem, NAD Junction and Gajuwaka
Coastal route: IT Hills, Rushikonda, ISKCON, Siripuram, RTC Complex, the railway station and Gajuwaka
Reported fares are around ₹200 to Madhurawada and ₹300–400 to the city centre and Gajuwaka, with buses roughly every 30 minutes from early morning to late evening. There’s no full official timetable yet, so check the latest times with APSRTC (helpline 0866 257 0005) before you rely on the last bus.
For Coral Hotel: take the inland (NH16) route and get off at Madhurawada. Coral is in Midhilapuri VUDA Colony, a short auto or cab ride from the highway.
Bhogapuram Airport to Vizag by Cab
Uber and Ola serve the airport. Fares change with car type, time of day and demand, so check the quote in the app before you confirm

Airlines usually ask you to reach the airport about 2 hours before a domestic flight, so work back from that
From Madhurawada, leave about 3 hours before your departure (about 1 hour on the road)
From RK Beach or the railway station, leave about 3½ hours before (1 to 1½ hours on the road)
Before you leave, check your flight status with the airline, especially in heavy rain or cyclone warnings, when flights can be rescheduled
For early morning flights, book your cab the night before
